Rolly Romero And Teofimo Lopez Reportedly Negotiating August PPV Fight

If completed, the bout would mark Teofimo’s debut at welterweight. The 27-year-old has not fought since suffering a unanimous decision loss to Shakur Stevenson in January in a fight contested at 140 pounds.

For Rolly, the fight would be his first appearance since defeating Ryan Garcia to capture the vacant WBA welterweight title in May 2025. The Las Vegas fighter has remained inactive for more than a year despite holding the belt.

Romero’s inactivity raised questions after mandatory challenger Shakhram Giyasov was ordered into position for a title shot last October. Despite the lengthy layoff and the unresolved mandatory situation, the WBA has not stripped Rolly of the championship.

A matchup between Romero and Teofimo would pit two of boxing’s biggest punchers against each other. Both fighters have built reputations on explosive offense, with neither known for a particularly cautious style inside the ring.

Teofimo enters the proposed fight with a 22-2 record and would be seeking a third divisional world title. Romero, meanwhile, would be attempting to make the first defense of a championship he won more than 13 months ago.

An official announcement has not been made, and negotiations are ongoing.
