Josh Padley Elevated After Galal Yafai Injury

Josh Padley will headline Matchroom’s June 6 card in Sheffield after Galal Yafai suffered an injury that forced the postponement of his flyweight unification fight against Ricardo Sandoval.

Matchroom confirmed Yafai sustained the injury during training camp. His WBC and WBA flyweight title fight with Sandoval will now be rescheduled for a later date.

Padley’s EBU European super featherweight title defense against Aqib Fiaz has now been elevated to the main event at Sheffield’s Utilita Arena on DAZN.

The June 6 event has already gone through multiple changes during the buildup after Dalton Smith was previously removed from the card earlier this month.

Despite the setbacks, Matchroom confirmed the event will still move forward as scheduled.

Padley enters the fight after winning the European title earlier this year. Fiaz will challenge for the belt in what is now his first scheduled main event appearance on a Matchroom card.

Padley gained attention in February last year when he stepped up against former WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson. Although he was stopped in the ninth round, he remained competitive during stretches of the fight.

Undefeated heavyweight prospect Leo Atang is also scheduled to appear on the card in his home region of Yorkshire.

Unbeaten prospects Adam Maca and Connor Mitchell remain on the bill as well.

Elsewhere on the undercard, Aaron Bowen faces Troy Coleman in a middleweight contest, while Ibraheem Sulaimaan fights Ibrahim Nadim for the English super featherweight title.

Matchroom also confirmed that refunds remain available through original points of purchase following the latest change to the top of the card.
